Developing the Ingredients for Emotional Awareness Skills

at Work and in Life

Start Here

What if managing emotions was easier?

When we fail to understand our emotions, we can also experience discomfort in relating to other people’s emotions, leading us to shut down or avoid dealing with things directly. This can be detrimental to building successful relationships with people around us, as well as how we ultimately feel about ourselves and impact our physical wellbeing.

Many tend to push emotions down or ignore them entirely. It’s also common to feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or even overly emotional at times. This is what happens when we have no idea how to manage them.

We are also often taught from an early age that emotions make you appear weak, which can lead to overall difficulty in allowing yourself to be vulnerable or regulating your emotions in later life. This is what happens when we are raised by people who have no idea how to manage them.

Traditional emotional intelligence training tells us we have an emotional brain that controls our emotions and can overpower our rational brain, so we only need to master our thoughts to manage our emotions.  This is what happens when you learn emotion management based on outdated neuroscience.

The Resilence Recipe/Becoming a Connected Manager

Emotions are the brain's way of predicting what will happen in a world that it knows little about. They prompt us with an appropriate response when necessary so we can determine if something is significant, not at all important or threatening-based on past experiences!

A great analogy for emotions would be like how our stomachs communicate information about food through signals such as hunger pangs and fullness cues. This process occurs internally but also externally - essentially communicating respectively "I'm hungry" vs." stuffed".

Speaking of food...we'll break this down by using cooking analogies so everyone can understand how powerful these feelings actually are for everything we do every single day.

The brain and mind are extraordinary things that we don't yet fully understand. With all the mysteries surrounding them it's hard for us humans not get lost in their complexity but that doesn’t mean you should give up on this tremendous power source of ours. You will be able to manage and understand your emotions with an easy, repeatable process!

All courses are hybrid — a combination of individual actions (videos, assessments, and coursework) and live Zoom meetings with me and other coursemates. We have small groups (no more than 25) to keep the discussion intimate and productive.  You will learn with and from your course cohorts.
